Senegal: the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Oulema organizes a competition for memorization and recitation of the Holy Quran

This edition was organized by the General Secretariat of the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Ulema in coordination with all its sections on the continent.

Through this competition, the Foundation aims to strengthen the interest of young African Muslims in the Holy Quran and to encourage them to memorize, recite and chant it.

Speaking on this occasion, the Moroccan Ambassador to Senegal, Hassan Naciri, highlighted the high concern with which His Majesty King Mohammed VI surrounds the preservation of the noble values ​​of Islam, saluting the role that plays in Africa the Mohammed VI Institute for training Imams Morchidines and Morchidates.

In this sense, he noted the symbolism of the organization of this competition at the Great Mosque of Dakar, which was inaugurated in 1964 by the late HM King Hassan II and the former Senegalese president, Leopold Sédar Senghor, which constitutes “an emblematic place for the city of Dakar, for Moroccan-Senegalese cooperation and also for our common belonging to Islam.”

This competition reflects the interest given by the Sovereign, Amir Al-Mouminine, to the defense of Islam and the learning of the Holy Quran, for his part, indicated the director of the Mohammed VI Institute for training of Imams Morchidines and Morchidates, Abdesslam Lazâar.

For his part, the director of the office of the Senegalese Minister of the Interior, Abdourahmane Ndiaye, emphasized the importance of the historical and religious ties that unite Senegal and Morocco, describing them as “deep, nourished by centuries of cultural, family and spiritual sharing, as well as by a common cultural and civilizational identity which unites our two peoples.

In total, 15 reciters representing all regions of Senegal participated in this competition. At the end of a day of competition, the jury announced the names of the first place winners in the three categories of the competition.

These are Mohamed Oury Jalu in the category “Memorization of the entire Holy Quran with recitation according to the reading Warch an Nafiâ”, Mohamed Bah in the category “Memorization of the entire Holy Quran with recitation according to reading Hafs” and Mohamed Bachir Niang in that of “Psalmody (Tajwid) with memorization of at least five Hizbs of the Holy Quran”.

Also taking part in this ceremony were a delegation from the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Oulema, the president of the section of the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Oulema in Senegal, Cheikh Mouhamed Khoureichi Ibrahim Niasse, members of the section, as well as religious figures and Senegalese officials.
