Britain’s Emma Raducanu, 19, has beaten the veteran in two rounds

In one of the last matches of her legendary career, the American Serena Williams suffered a stunning defeat on Tuesday against the young British Emma Raducanu in the first round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Cincinnati.

Raducanu, 19, beat Williams, 40, 6-4, 6-0 in 65 minutes of play on center court in Cincinnati, Ohio, where fans gave the American a standing ovation.

Winner of 23 Grand Slam tournaments, Williams has indicated that his withdrawal from the slopes is close and could take place after his participation in the US Open that starts on August 29.
