Investigators Probe Suspected Serial Killer’s Home in Long Island

Authorities have expanded their investigation into Rex Heuermann, the suspect charged with the murders of three women whose remains were found on a beach roadway in Long Island over a decade ago. Law enforcement sources have revealed that investigators are examining the possibility that Heuermann may have killed some of his alleged victims at his home in Massapequa Park.

Heuermann shares the house with his wife and two adult children, who were away at the time of the alleged murders. The ongoing investigation has led to a week-long search of the residence after Heuermann’s arrest.

According to CBS News, investigators are meticulously combing through the house in search of any potential evidence. The search operation has left no stone unturned as investigators meticulously inspect every inch of the property.

In addition to the home search, authorities are also looking into whether Heuermann may be connected to other unsolved murder cases across the country. Officials in Suffolk County are cooperating with investigators from Atlantic City, New Jersey, to determine if the suspect has any links to unsolved killings within their jurisdiction.

Search warrants have been executed in other parts of the United States, including Las Vegas and South Carolina, where Heuermann may have had ties. Authorities have recovered a Chevrolet Avalanche truck believed to be connected to the suspect, which may have been used in at least one of the murders. The truck has been transported to Suffolk County for further examination.

Meanwhile, Heuermann’s wife, Asa Ellerup, has filed for divorce after learning about her husband’s alleged crimes. Ellerup’s attorney, Robert Macedonio, stated that she was forced to leave the couple’s home with only the clothes on her back and has been barred from returning while investigators continue their search. All electronics, including those belonging to Ellerup and her children, have been seized for investigation.

Ellerup’s passport remains inside the home, leaving her without access to it. Macedonio also revealed that Heuermann is currently under suicide watch and has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

The arrest of Heuermann has brought renewed attention to the notorious Gilgo Beach killings. The remains of 10 individuals, including the three victims in Heuermann’s case, were discovered along Gilgo Beach between 2010 and 2011. Heuermann lived just across the bay from where the remains were found, and investigators are now examining the proximity as a potential link.

The Gilgo Beach killings have long puzzled investigators and garnered widespread media attention. They served as the focus of a 2011 “48 Hours” episode and inspired the 2020 Netflix drama “Lost Girls.” Authorities initially believed that multiple killers may be responsible for the deaths, but the close proximity of some of the bodies indicated the work of a potential serial murderer.

The investigation into Rex Heuermann’s alleged crimes is ongoing, and more updates are expected as authorities continue their search for evidence and connections to other unsolved cases.
