Service sector recorded growth of 0.4% from October to November 2023. This is what data released by the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) this Tuesday, 16. After three months of negative results, the volume provided in Brazil showed an increase in that month. The sector is 10.8% above the pre-pandemic level, in February 2020, but 2.6% below the highest point in the historical series, in December 2022. In comparison with the month of October last year , 12 of the 27 federation units saw an expansion in the volume of services. São Paulo was the State with the greatest positive impact, registering an increase of 1.1%. Next came Paraná (2.4%), Mato Grosso (3.1%) and Mato Grosso do Sul (4.8%).

On the other hand, Rio Grande do Sul (-2.0%), Federal District (-2.6%), Maranhão (-7.6%) and Amazonas (-4.8%) presented the main negative rates in the month . In the accumulated period from January to November 2023, compared to the same period in 2022, the sector grew by 2.7%. Of the five dissemination activities analyzed, four presented positive rates: other services (3.6%), professional, administrative and complementary (1%) and services provided to families (2.2%). On the other hand, the transport (-1%) and information and communication services (-0.1%) segments fell. The IBGE also points out that tourist activities registered a negative variation of 2.4% in November 2023. As a result, the segment is 2.2% below the pre-pandemic level, in February 2020, and 5% below the point highest in the historical series, reached in February 2014.
