“In post-war historiography, it is assumed that the violent persecution of Jewish Germans began with the Kristallnacht on November 9, 1938 – I have a different opinion,” says Wilfried Dieterichs. “In my opinion, the actual start took place four months earlier with the June campaign.”

The journalist, who comes from the small town of Bad Ems, shows this thoroughly researched down to the smallest detail using the example of Bernhard Strauss. He was also born in Bad Emser and was arrested along with many other Jewish Germans during the June action and deported to the Sachsenhausen concentration camp.

A seven-year odyssey of terror through a total of five concentration camps followed. Unbelievable, but he survived.
