A significant drop in temperatures is expected across most of Egypt today, Monday, December 8, bringing with it a heightened risk of dense fog, potential rainfall, and even hailstorms in some areas. Authorities are urging caution, especially for drivers and those involved in maritime activities.
The General Authority of meteorology forecasts cold weather will prevail in the early morning hours,transitioning to moderate temperatures during the day and cooling off again at night. Active winds will exacerbate the feeling of cold in several regions.
Dense Fog Disrupts Travel
Dangerous driving conditions are anticipated as dense fog is expected to descend upon roads leading to and from the north of the country, extending as far south as Greater Cairo, northern Upper Egypt, and central Sinai, beginning around 4:00 AM. Visibility will be severely limited, posing a significant hazard to motorists.
Rain and Thunderstorms Forecast
The northwestern coasts and northern Lower Egypt are bracing for moderate and thundery rain, with heavier downpours possible in the evening, particularly in the areas of Salloum and Matrouh. Intermittent showers are also predicted for southern Lower Egypt, Greater Cairo, the Canal Cities, North upper Egypt, and the southern regions of Halayeb and Shalatin.
Strong Winds and Maritime Concerns
Wind activity is expected along the northern coasts, Lower Egypt, Greater Cairo, and North Upper Egypt.This will likely disrupt maritime navigation on the Mediterranean coast from Salloum to Baltim, with wind speeds reaching 40-50 km/h and wave heights of 2-3 meters.
Severe Weather Warning: Hail, Dust, and Lightning
A senior official warned that thunderclouds have a 40% chance of producing localized hailstones, strong winds capable of kicking up sand and dust, and dangerous lightning strikes. Residents are advised to take precautions to protect themselves and thier property.
