The authorities in Spain announced today that the singer and pop star Shakira Will be prosecuted by the court in Barcelona for suspected tax fraud allegedly committed in the amount of 14.5 million euros between 2012-2014.
The prosecutors in Spain demand that she be fined 23 million Euros and the maximum penalty for the six counts in which she is suspected, and in case of conviction it is up to eight years in prison.
It is suspected that Shakira, who pretended to live in another country while actually living in Barcelona, used this technique to deceive the authorities and take her money to a tax haven with the intention of paying less taxes. Also, last July, the singer rejected a plea deal in the case.
The singer vowed last week to fight what she said were “false” allegations by Spanish authorities and her PR company said she had already paid everything she owed plus €3 million in interest.
