After an absence from the stages: the singer and composer Shalom Hanoch received a lifetime achievement award from AM last night (Tuesday). Hanoch went on stage and thanked his fellow artists: “I’m not used to and I don’t like receiving awards that much. But from my fellow artists I feel it is, truly, an honor for me to receive an award. That is why I am proud to receive this award. And I thank my fellow artists, and I thank you, because I meet you all the time.”

In the last months of April and August, Hanoch canceled performances due to a back injury. Earlier this month, he canceled another show after contracting the corona virus.

Recipients of the award for 2022: actor Osama Masri, Dori Ben Ze’ev, David Broza, Chava Alberstein, Hanna Leslau, Chris Lartist, Miki Kam, Margalit Tsenani, Nitza Shaul, Naomi Faran, Sally Anne Friedland and Sasha Demidov. The “Culture Darling” award was given to Miki Yerushalayim for his contribution to Israeli culture.

The actress Yona Elian-Kesht, who was recently elected to the position of chairperson of the Israel Artists Union, said from the stage of the ceremony: “For years the position of culture in Israel has been eroding. The status of artists is diminishing, and the reasons for this are many and well known and the result is that great artists are appreciated and become the ‘soundtrack of our lives’ only after their death. The Israel Artists Union should fight as a professional union for wage conditions, creative conditions and to the same extent for the status of art and artists in all cultural institutions.”
