Rosalia Manosperti is in despair: her six-year-old son Andrea is dead, her husband Antonio is in intensive care in Sharm al-Sheikh hospital. The woman, who is four months pregnant, is still recovering in the hospital herself – the family met during the holidays severe food poisoning in an Egyptian seaside resort captured.
Rosalia Manosperti and 46-year-old Antonio Mirabile had always been very careful, as the 35-year-old assured her relatives in Palermo, Sicily. Since his arrival, the couple made sure to drink bottled mineral water, the family only ate meals in the luxury resort Sultan Gardens, the relatives explain to the Italian portal «The Reformista ».
Father has heart, kidney and lung problems
Last Friday, little Andrea suddenly fell ill. He was throwing up constantly, had severe stomach pains and diarrhea, like «Corriere della Sera» writes. Shortly thereafter, his father also fell ill. When Rosalia called 911 the next day, they were both severely dehydrated. Andrea died on the way to the hospital, his father was unconscious. Rosalia, on the other hand, had only mild symptoms of food poisoning.
“In shock, my sister told me that the doctors had been trying to revive the child for an hour. The little boy died in his mother’s arms. My brother-in-law is seriously ill and is in intensive care with heart, kidney and lung problems. He’s had a very low saturation for days,” explains Roberto Manosperti, Rosalia’s brother.
Hospital in Egypt does not issue a full report
The mother now wants to return to Sicily with a charter. In an audio file that the relatives gave to the portal «Giornale di Sizilia», Rosalia’s voice can be heard. “My husband and I are in Sharm al-Sheikh hospital where we lost our six-year-old son. I call on all responsible institutions to take measures so that we can return to Italy on a special scheduled flight as soon as possible. Because our health condition does not allow us to take a normal scheduled flight. Please help us return home.”
But that could take another four days, as Rosalia’s brother told «Corriere della Sera» says. “The medical team on board is asking for medical reports, which the hospital in Egypt has not given us. They only gave us a report, which our doctor in Palermo described as incomplete and contradictory.”
