Sher Bangla Abul Kashem Fazlul Haque is an unforgettable name, an extraordinary person. He was the Chief Minister of undivided Bengal. Shere Bangla is forever memorable to us as the bearer and bearer of Muslim cultural heritage. He wrote the basic foundation of the historical fact that we are all Bengalis as a nation. Today is the 62nd death anniversary of this great national leader. The nation today remembers him with deep respect.

Shere Bangla He died on April 27, 1962 in Dhaka. He also has an important place in history as an educationist and a legend of communal harmony. He was born on October 26, 1873 in the Miya house of Saturia village, Rajapur, Jhalkathi district. In his illustrious political life, he served as the Chief Minister of undivided Bengal, Home Minister of the Union Government of Pakistan, Governor of East Pakistan, Chief Minister of the United Front Government, the first Muslim Mayor of Calcutta City Corporation and member of the Legislative Assembly. He also contributed to the anti-British movement. In 1940 he proposed the historic Lahore proposal. He was also the author of 21 point demand.

On the occasion of the 62nd death anniversary of Shere Bangla AK Fazlul Haque, President Md. Sahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave separate messages.

In his speech, the President said, Haque Sahib, known as the Tiger of Bengal, was a leader of the masses. He established the Krishak Praja Party (KPP) in 1936 and Shramik-Krishak Dal in 1953 to protect the interests of farmers and workers. As Chief Minister of undivided Bengal, Shere Bangla has left a shining example of development in various fields including education, politics, social reform of the people of this region. The ‘Debt Arbitration Board’ formed under his initiative has played an important role in freeing the exploited and oppressed peasant society of Bengal from the trap of debt. He enacted the Bengal Employment Act, Tenancy Act, Moneylenders Act, Shop Employees Act, which contributed positively to the upliftment of the neglected peasant-labourers of the region.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, AK Fazlul Haque’s infinite compassion, love and efforts for the poor and distressed people of Bengal will always inspire the new generation.

The Prime Minister said, there was ideological unity and political closeness with Sher Bangla Abul Kashem Fazlul Haque, the greatest Bengali of all time, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman struggled throughout his life to build an exploitation-free, progressive, democratic and non-communal Bangladesh. By establishing the independent sovereign Bangladesh, he gave the Bengali nation an opportunity to walk with its head held high in the world.

Various social, political and cultural organizations have taken elaborate programs to mark the death anniversary of the great leader. Programs include: Laying wreaths at the graves of the deceased and recitation of Fateha and discussion meeting. Bangladesh Awami League started the day’s program by paying tributes at the tomb of Sher Bangla AK Fazlul Haque at Dhaka University premises at 8 am and praying for the forgiveness of his holy soul. On this occasion, Barisal Division Association has organized a discussion meeting and doa mahfil. This discussion program and doa mahfil will be held in the VIP room of Motijheel Kitchen Yard Party Center on Saturday at 4 pm. Chairman of Bangladesh Press Council Justice Md. will be present as the chief guest. Nizamul Haque Nasim. President of the association Bir Muktijoddha will preside over the event. Ziaul Kabir Dulu.
