The American, injured in her knee during a downhill two weeks ago in Italy, will not participate in the World Cup in Soldeu, Andorra, this weekend.
Mikaela Shiffrin, record holder of 95 World Cup victories, airlifted following a high-speed fall on the track that will host the women’s downhill at the Milan-Cortina 2026 Olympics two weeks ago said on Instagram that his knee could not yet support the load of racing.
“I just need a little more time to heal and get back into shape. There was no major ligament damage and the structure inside my knee joint appears good. I took a huge amount of stress on my whole leg when I fell and stretched a bunch of things that continue to cause pain, although it’s getting better every day! The fact that everything is structurally intact is super positive, but I still have to be patient…I’m in it for the long haul and I want to make sure my knee is strong and I’m fully capable of skiing with power when I will come back to the start”.
Shiffrin also supported his partner Aleksander Aamodt Kilde’s call for better planning of World Cup race days to protect athletes from injury. “It is difficult to express in words what the current requirements are for athletes who are in the top 15 in several disciplines and who regularly reach the podium.
