jpnn.comSAMARINDA – Another boat accident occurred on the Mahakam River, Kutai Kartanegara (Kukar) Regency, East Kalimantan, Saturday.

The incident involving Tug Boat Entebe Emerald 51 and the cargo ship Berkat Indah 2020 resulted in two people missing. The two missing victims were one crew member of Berkat Indah 200 and one passenger, a three year old baby.

The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) SAR team together with a joint team are still searching for victims.

“The maritime accident occurred at around 04.10 WITA,” said BMKG Kukar SAR Field Coordinator Eko Surya Winata in Kukar, Sunday.

He said that the incident started when the TB Entebe Emerald 51 finished performing a turning maneuver in dark waters.

The cargo ship Berkat Indah 2020, which was about to pass, did not carry out radio communication first, so the two ships did not have time to dodge until a collision occurred.

The crew of the TB Entebe Emerald 51, numbering eight people, was led by Captain Yohan Sulaiman. Apart from the captain, the name Esra Toding was recorded as head of the engine room and other crew members who served in important parts of the ship.

“At the time of the accident, Natalius Patiku was known to be the helmsman on duty,” said Eko.

From the ship Goods Berkat Indah 2020, which was carrying various goods, such as cement and iron, there were five passengers, including a small child named Abijal, three years old.

The accident affected the passengers of the KM Berkat Indah 2020. The passengers of the KM Berkat Indah 2020 included Ari Nakhoda and his wife Nursidah, Abijal, 3, Azis, crew member of the KM Berkat Indah, and Ferdiansyah, who was also a crew member of theThanks Indah.

Search efforts are still continuing to find one of the crew members, Berkat Indah, Azis and three-year-old passenger Abijal who were reported missing after the accident.

The joint SAR team consisting of BPBD Kukar, Police, TNI and volunteers from the local community worked hard to carry out searches in the area around the incident location.

“Survivors who suffered injuries have been evacuated to the Muara Wis Community Health Center to receive medical treatment,” he said.

Their condition continues to be monitored and released after being deemed stable enough to leave the health center.

He appealed to all parties involved in navigation on the Mahakam River to always pay attention to safety and communication while on the water to avoid similar accidents in the future.

BPBD Kukar continues to coordinate with related agencies and the local community to provide the latest information and respond quickly to needs that arise during the evacuation and search process.

“This incident brings lessons about the importance of maritime safety and cooperation in emergency situations,” said Eko.(antara/jpnn)
