He Canary Islands Fantastic Film Festival City of La Laguna Calavera Island takes stock of its recent edition, which closed its doors on November 19 after ten intense days of programming with great public success and a record of achievements led by Spanish productions The Waitby F. Javier Gutiérrez, with the awards for best feature film, direction, actor and costumes, and The dining room table, by Caye Casas, with recognition for best script and the Audience Award for best feature film. The Jury award for best short film went to Psycharyby Daniel Padró Targarona, while the Audience Award for best short went to Bail, by the Canarian Eduardo Cubillo. More than 25,000 people of all ages enjoyed the programming displayed for this seventh installment of the contest, with 50 screening sessions at Multicines Tenerife that included 13 feature films and 18 shorts in competition, 2 documentaries, 13 classics and the national premieres of In the Fire, Last Sentinel y Somewhere quiet, in addition to the extensive proposal of parallel activities and presentations inside and outside the Canary Islands. A shower of stars paraded down the red carpet of the opening and closing galas of the Festival, which was hosted by the emblematic Leal Theater in La Laguna. American actress Amber Heard (Aquaman) and the Spanish actor Eduardo Noriega (Open your eyes) visited the Festival surrounded by great expectations to present their new film for the first time in Spain, In the Fire. Noriega also received the Isla Calavera Honor Award, an award that this year also recognized the careers of the North American director and producer. Joe Dante (Gremlins, Howls) and the Madrid actress Manuela Velasco ([REC]). The actor Sam J. Joneswho gave life to Flash Gordon in the 1980 classic, and the actress Silvia Tortosa (Panic on the Trans-Siberian) received two Legend of Fantastic awards. The Calavera Island Festival was born in 2017 and in its seven years of history it has achieved a significant national impact and is already considered one of the five most relevant fantasy film festivals in the country. At the international level it has also become one of the events to take into account, thanks to the participation of such relevant figures as Belén Rueda, John Landis, Deborah Nadoolman, Sarah Douglas, Rick Baker, Caroline Munro, David Naughton, Jack Taylor , Enzo G. Castellari, Mick Garris, Neil Marshall, Álex de la Iglesia, Nicholas Rowe, Colin Arthur or Lamberto Bava.
