Brothers Arrested in Italy for Violent Attack on Emergency room Doctor
A precautionary custody order has been issued against two brothers, aged 38 and 34, following a brutal attack on a doctor and subsequent vandalism of a medical clinic in Ragusa, italy, last April. the pair now face house arrest as authorities investigate the incident, which underscores growing concerns about violence against healthcare workers.
The incident unfolded in the early hours of april, when the brothers arrived at the emergency medical service in piazza Igea seeking treatment for a deep domestic wound sustained by one of them. According to a reconstruction of events by the carabinieri of the Radiomobile section of the Ragusa Company, the doctor on duty provided initial care and recommended a transfer to the emergency room for further treatment.
This recommendation,however,ignited the brothers’ anger. They reportedly demanded additional surgical intervention, specifically requesting stitches. When their request was not instantly met, the situation escalated rapidly. The brothers began verbally abusing the doctor before physically assaulting him,striking him violently in the face. They then proceeded to ransack the clinic, throwing medical equipment and supplies to the ground, rendering them unusable.
“The level of aggression displayed was shocking,” stated a source close to the investigation.
The doctor, suffering from injuries sustained during the attack, subsequently sought treatment at the John Paul II hospital. The severity of his injuries, requiring several days of prognosis, prompted the investigating judge of Ragusa, at the request of the Prosecutor’s Office, to issue the precautionary custody order.
law enforcement officials were able to identify and locate the brothers following an initial investigation based on a description provided by the doctor. They were subsequently reported and now await further legal proceedings under house arrest. This case highlights the increasing risks faced by medical professionals and the urgent need for enhanced security measures in healthcare facilities.
