Singapore Authorities Uncover Critically important Drug Cache
A recent operation led to the arrest of a woman and the seizure of a considerable amount of cannabis, methamphetamine, and other controlled substances.
- approximately 7,144 grams of cannabis were confiscated, enough to sustain 1,110 abusers for a week, according to CNB estimates.
- The seized drugs also included 169 grams of methamphetamine (Ice), 9 grams of ketamine, 30 grams of Ecstasy, and 30 Erimin-5 tablets.
- Authorities were forced to enter the woman’s condominium unit on West Coast Way after she refused to cooperate with officers.
- A separate examination on January 3 led to the discovery of 509 kilograms of cannabis in an inbound container at the Pasir Panjang scanning Station.
- Trafficking more than 500 grams of cannabis in Singapore carries a mandatory death penalty.
On January 3, authorities at the Pasir Panjang Scanning Station intercepted 509 kilograms of cannabis concealed within an inbound container. The container had been flagged for enhanced inspection based on intelligence provided by Singapore Customs and a pre-arrival risk assessment conducted by the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority’s Integrated Targeting center.
Preliminary investigations suggest the cannabis was not intended for local distribution but was in transit to another country. This indicates Singapore is often used as a transshipment point for illicit drugs destined for other markets in the region and beyond.
The CNB continues to work with international partners to disrupt the supply of illicit drugs and protect the country from the harms associated with drug abuse. The ongoing investigations into both cases are expected to provide further insights into the networks involved in these drug trafficking operations.
