Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said vaccinations helped reduce the number of hospitalizations in the city. According to him, the volume of vaccinations has quadrupled since the end of August. However, the situation with the coronavirus remains difficult: over the past week, 10% more cases were hospitalized in the capital than in the previous week, he added. The number of new cases of infection also increased (+ 14%).
“The situation in Moscow remains tense: over the past week, the number of diseases increased by 14%, the number of hospitalizations – by 10%. Obviously, the growth continues, maybe not in such a dynamic, but the growth is serious, ”said Mr. Sobyanin at a meeting of the presidium of the government’s coordinating council on combating coronavirus (quote from the government website).
The mayor added that vaccination in Moscow has recently “increased significantly” – four times from the minimum threshold, which was at the end of August. “In contrast to previous periods, the volume of hospitalizations for identified diseases is lower than in previous periods. Why? Because, after all, a fairly large number of people were vaccinated. And this, of course, affects the severity of diseases, the number of hospitalizations, the number of people who are in intensive care, ”he said.
The pace of PCR testing is also increasing in Moscow. “Up to 90 thousand (PCR tests.— “B”) reaches a day, ”said Mr. Sobyanin. According to him, at the end of this week, the number of rapid testing points for COVID-19 in Moscow will increase to 50.
Over the past day, 6074 cases of coronavirus were detected in Moscow, 86 people died. In total, 36,446 infections were recorded in Russia. By decree of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, from October 30 to November 7, non-working days were announced in the country due to the increase in the incidence of coronavirus.
