‘Solar Opposites’ Creators Launch New Animated Series, ‘Odd Jobs’
A new animated series from the minds behind “Solar Opposites” promises a darkly comedic look at the future of work.
- Dominic Dierkes and Mike McMahan, co-creators of “Solar Opposites,” are behind the new show.
- Odd Jobs is set in 2127 and depicts a dystopian gig economy.
- The series will stream on Amazon Prime Video.
- Melissa Wolfe of Amazon MGM Studios praised the show’s humor and imagination.
Following the cancellation of Solar Opposites, a loss felt across pop culture in 2025, fans have a reason to celebrate: the creative duo behind the Hulu hit are bringing a new animated series to Amazon Prime Video. Called Odd Jobs, the show plunges into the gig economy with a distinctly dystopian vision—and, judging by their previous work, promises a healthy dose of unhinged humor.
According to reports, the official description of Odd Jobs reads: “The year is 2127, the world is an extreme late-stage capitalist hellscape. The show follows a reluctant team of gig-workers as they travel around the neo Midwest, doing the weirdest most dangerous tasks the ODD JOBS app demands.”
In a statement, co-creators Dominic Dierkes and Mike McMahan—both veterans of Solar Opposites, with McMahan also credited on Star Trek: Lower Decks and Rick and Morty—shared their inspiration. “While wandering through the wilderness, we accidentally stumbled through a portal and found ourselves hundreds of years in the future,” they said. “We witnessed bizarre and grotesque portents about where humanity is heading. Instead of acting on those warnings, we’re thrilled to turn them into an animated show.”
Melissa Wolfe, head of animation for Amazon MGM Studios, described Odd Jobs as “sharp, absurd, and laugh-out-loud funny, taking a wildly imaginative look at a future that’s as chaotic as it is entertaining.”
Consider us intrigued. The premise alone is enough to pique interest, and the pedigree of the creators suggests a show that won’t shy away from pushing boundaries. Details regarding the voice cast and a potential release date for Odd Jobs remain under wraps, but updates are eagerly anticipated.
Odd Jobs appears poised to deliver a unique and unsettling vision of the future, one gig at a time.
