‘Solar Opposites’ Team Lands New Animated Series ‘Odd Jobs’ at Prime Video
A new animated series from the executive producers of “Solar Opposites” is heading to Prime Video. The project, titled “Odd Jobs,” has been acquired by the streaming giant and promises a darkly comedic look at a future filled with bizarre and dangerous work.
The series, produced by CBS Studios and Titmouse, is set roughly 100 years in the future and centers on a group of temporary workers navigating the American Midwest. These workers take on the most unusual and hazardous assignments available through the “Odd Jobs” application.
According to a synopsis, the creators stumbled upon the concept in a rather unconventional way. “While wandering through the wilderness, we accidentally stumbled upon a portal and found ourselves hundreds of years in the future,” one of the show’s creators stated. “We witness strange and grotesque omens about the future of humanity. Instead of acting on those warnings, we’re happy to turn them into an animated series!”
From ‘Solar Opposites’ to a Futuristic Midwest
Mike McMahan and Dominic Dierkes, the creative force behind “Solar Opposites,” will serve as executive producers on “Odd Jobs.” “Solar Opposites” concluded its sixth season on Hulu last fall, earning acclaim for its sharp wit and inventive premise. McMahan’s previous credits include Emmy-winning work as a screenwriter, producer, and showrunner on “Rick and Morty,” as well as the creation of “Star Trek: Lower Decks.” Dierkes has contributed as a writer to shows like “The Mick,” “Workaholics,” and “Ash vs. Evil Dead,” and has also appeared in “Mystery Team,” “Community,” “Parks and Recreation,” and “Mad Men.”
The production team also includes Titmouse stars Chris Prynoski, Shannon Prynoski, Antonio Canobbio, and Ben Kalina, alongside Amie Karp, a producer known for her work on “Ghostbusters.”
Amazon MGM Studios Anticipates a “Chaotic” Comedy
Melissa Wolfe, director of animation at Amazon MGM Studios, expressed enthusiasm for the project. “’Odd Jobs’ is sharp, absurd and laugh-inducing, offering an imaginative look at a future that’s as chaotic as it is entertaining,” Wolfe said in a statement. “Mike and Dominic have created a bold, unpredictable world full of hilarious characters, and we’re thrilled to collaborate with CBS Studios and Titmouse to bring this new comedy to Prime Video audiences around the world.”
