Mogadishu: Indian Navy has once again proved its strength in the world. The Navy has once again proved that with its presence the Indian Ocean is completely safe. The Indian Navy has completed the operation to rescue a ship from pirates. It was captured by Somali pirates. INS Kolkata of the Indian Navy successfully engaged all 35 pirates in a coordinated action within 40 hours. The Indian Navy forced these pirates to surrender. The Indian Navy captured 35 pirates. 17 crew were evacuated safely without any loss on Saturday evening. INS Kolkata had intercepted the hijacked ship MV Rouen about 2600 km off the Indian coast. The pirates were monitored through INS Subhadra, drones and P8I maritime patrol aircraft. Later Marcos commandos were sent to the ship. The Indian Navy released a video, which shows the pirates opening fire when the helicopters got close to the ship.

Hijack took place on 14th December

Following the surrender of the pirates, the ship was searched for illegal arms, ammunition and contraband. An Indian Navy warship had received information about robbers aboard the ship MV Rouen. It was hijacked by Somali pirates on 14 December. Since then it had become a pirate ship. This posed a serious threat to the shipping lanes. On March 15, the Navy detained the ship. When the ship was stopped the robbers started firing.

The Indian Navy said in a statement that it is committed to maritime security and the safety of sailors in the region. The Navy has also successfully established communication with the crew aboard the ship MV Rouen. The crew includes people from Angola, Bulgaria and Myanmar. Yemen’s Houthi rebels are attacking ships in the Red Sea. Seeing the Houthis, pirates are also hijacking ships in the Indian Ocean. The Indian Navy has rescued many ships in the last few months.
