The CGT, UGT and USO unions denounced their indignation at the decision of a telephone operator company located in Madrid, Konecta, to keep staff working after the death of a colleague on June 13, considering that it was an “essential service”. . The deceased, aged 60, remained at the company’s facilities until her death certificate could be processed.

The unions regretted the “lack of humanity and empathy” of the decision adopted in the absence of a protocol for this situation, and claimed that it is a fact that “cannot happen again.” They also demanded a meeting with the company’s health and safety committee to be able to “disclose responsibilities and investigate what happened.”

After death, two people tried to revive the woman with first aid techniques. Subsequently, the emergency services arrived, which continued with the resuscitation work but failed to do anything to save her life either. In the company, the decision was made to clear the area closest to the deceased, although the colleagues had to continue answering the calls.

The deceased had worked at the company since 2008, and according to what the unions stated, she remained “in person” for about 40 minutes while the rest of the employees continued with their obligations. The episode ended when the person in charge of risk prevention arrived at the facilities, who made the decision to send them to telework.
