SOS Traffic Crimes: 2024 Let’s go wherever it happens…

We say goodbye to 2023 and welcome 2024 without a trace of optimism.

We say goodbye to the hundreds of dead in traffic collisions that we had for another year in our country.

Beloved and unique people and not numbers in statistics.

You have to either be completely numb or completely untouched by the pandemic of death and serious injury that has swept our country for over half a century to be content with looking at statistics about what was happening 30 years ago.

Yes and one, just one life to be saved is extremely important.

But just as important is a single life lost. Not the 600 and 700…

Because every person is unique, for himself, his family, society.

Greece has consistently ranked among the worst in road traffic fatalities and serious injuries over the past (as well as past) years.

Why; Because he doesn’t want to deal with the “problem”.

It also ends in 2023 and the government, for one more year, has not presented a single (1) prevention measure, not a single (1) substantial change at any level before, against, after the traffic accident.

A quarter of a century has passed since Sweden, the first to implement another strategy, Vision Zero, which had and has not only measurable but overwhelming results in the issue of eliminating traffic collisions and their consequences. Other countries followed. Not us.

The results are what we know. The dead and maimed people produced in the traffic network fill the News Papers every day, until the next day when (at least) one more “tragedy on the asphalt” takes the place of the previous one. “Scenes of ancient tragedy in the cemetery…”. Beyond that, nothing.

“It’s a matter of education” the experts will say… “Education” that the Greek automatically acquires as soon as he finds himself driving in another European country, “Education” that the European loses automatically as soon as he comes to drive in our country!

Unfortunately a figure of 700 dead each year and as many severely disabled (overwhelmingly very young) does not seem to be a problem for those who rule the country.

Hopefully in 2024 we will be disproved in everything we stand for. Probably unlikely, but I wish.
