Bomb Threats to Jakarta Schools Prove False Alarm: No Explosives Found

South Tangerang, Indonesia – Authorities confirmed on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, that bomb threats received by two international schools in the Greater Jakarta area were hoaxes. A thorough search by police and bomb disposal teams revealed no explosives at either location.

The schools affected were Jakarta Nanyang School in Pagedangan, Tangerang Regency, and Mentari Intercultural School in Bintaro, Pondok Aren District, South Tangerang. The threats were delivered via WhatsApp and email to school management, prompting immediate action from local law enforcement.

“Once we received information regarding the bomb threats, we immediately secured the locations and coordinated with the bomb disposal team from the Metro Jaya Police Mobile Brigade,” stated a senior official at the scene.

According to the official, the Gegana team – Indonesia’s specialized bomb disposal unit – conducted a comprehensive sweep and sterilization of both school campuses. “The results were negative; no explosives or bombs were found in either location,” the official confirmed.

Six Gegana team vehicles were observed at the Mentari Intercultural School in Bintaro prior to the all-clear being given, initially raising concerns among parents and community members.

Despite the negative findings, police have stated that security around both international schools will remain heightened to ensure a safe and secure environment. The investigation into the source of the threats is ongoing.

This incident underscores the growing concern over hoax threats targeting educational institutions, requiring significant resources and causing considerable disruption. Authorities are urging the public to report any suspicious activity and refrain from spreading unverified information.
