Imports of natural gas to Spain from Russia shot up 151.4% in February compared to the same month last year, reaching 5,465 gigawatt hours (GWh), according to data from the Corporación de Reservas Estratégicas de Productos Petrolíferos (Cores). ).

This figure places Russia as the third main supplier of natural gas to Spain, with 17.2% of the total in the month. However, this gas from Russia to the country registered a lower volume than last January, when it reached 6,372 GWh.

In addition, much of this natural gas has other countries as its final destination, since Spain has a powerful regasification infrastructure.

In February, Algeria once again consolidated its role as the main supplier of natural gas to Spain, recovered at the beginning of 2023 after being ousted from that place last year by the United States, and with 7,481 GWh the African country supplied 23.5 % of total gas to the country.
