The photography exhibition entitled “Sports and brotherhood”, inspired by the idea of the Olympic Truce, is presented by the French Institute of Thessaloniki in collaboration with the Photometria Photography Center, ahead of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris.

The exhibition was created on behalf of the Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games of Paris 2024. It consists of 24 photos of the Agence France-Presse, which show moments both from Olympic events and from different parts of the world, capturing moments of coexistence and brotherhood with a common denominator sports. It thus allows us to reflect on how sport facilitates contact, dialogue, friendship and fraternity between communities and individuals.
The Olympic Truce was an important element of the Ancient Olympic Games and concerned the cessation of conflicts between Greek cities. In modern times it was activated by the United Nations General Assembly in 1993, urging nations to cease hostilities during the Olympic Games and contribute to the spirit of unity and peace. For the organizers of the Paris Games, the Olympic Truce is an opportunity to breathe new life into the values of Olympism and for the planet to celebrate the moments of togetherness and brotherhood experienced by athletes, their teams and the public.
The exhibition “Sports and brotherhood” is part of the program of events of the French Institute of Thessaloniki in view of the Olympic and Paralympic Games of Paris and is hosted at the Photometria Photography Center. The exhibition will be opened by the Consul General of France in Thessaloniki, Jean-Luc Laveau, on Tuesday, April 23, at 9 pm. The exhibition will last until May 2.
