Meanwhile, Minister Wimalaweera Dissanayake has said that the resignation of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa will not bring any change in the Sri Lankan crisis.

Emergency again: Earlier, a state of emergency was declared in Sri Lanka from midnight yesterday. The President of Sri Lanka has ordered the suppression of the protests through a state of emergency and the President has issued additional security measures to end the students’ struggle.

Sri Lanka is facing a major economic impact after the Corona epidemic. Foreign exchange inflows to Sri Lanka have been severely affected. Sri Lanka’s currency has largely devalued. This is the worst economic crisis Sri Lanka has faced in decades.

Thus there is a severe fuel shortage in the country. Due to the lack of money to buy coal, power cuts are in effect in Sri Lanka for up to 12 hours daily. Petrol and diesel prices are at an all-time high. Commodity prices peaked. Thus the people’s struggles against the government intensified. Sri Lankan President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa declared a state of emergency on April 1 to quell popular protests.

However, five days later, at midnight on April 5, the declaration of a state of emergency was repealed. In this situation, the state of emergency came into force again at midnight yesterday.

It has been reported that Mahinda Rajapaksa will resign as the Prime Minister in such a situation.
