Colombo: Protesters stormed the official residence of Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapakse. The President had already escaped from his official residence before this. In the released video, it can be seen that the protestors have occupied the rooms of the residences. The video shows protesters jumping and drowning in a swimming pool used only by the president and family members.

In another video, a crowd can be seen rushing into the kitchen of the residence and tasting the food there. Some went to the bedrooms and took selfies and lay on the bed. The protestors broke utensils and other things around the dining table. The entire building is surrounded by protesters carrying the Sri Lankan national flag. Videos of the couple chopping vegetables together in the kitchen and sleeping in the bedroom have gone viral.

Tens of thousands of people stormed the President’s residence today. The crowd that broke through the police barricades is still there. Protesters are reaching the capital city in buses, trains and trucks from different parts of the country. It is reported that many soldiers are participating in the agitation demanding the resignation of the President. Sportspersons including cricketer Sanath Jayasuriya are also participating in the agitation. Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene and others have also come out in support of the protesters.

In all my life I have never seen a country come together with the sole purpose of ousting a failed leader. I will always stand with the people of Sri Lanka. Soon the victory will be celebrated. Sanath tweeted that this association should not be broken. In another tweet, he said the president should show the dignity to resign. The blockade is over. Your castle is broken. He said that people’s power has won and he also tweeted pictures with the agitators. “This is for our future,” Sangakkara said while tweeting a video of the protesters surrounding the President’s residence.

After the lifting of curfew in Sri Lanka, the crowd took to the streets in protest. Police and army could not stop the protest.
The economic crisis and difficulties that have been experienced for months have led the Lankans to such a fierce protest.
