Colombo,

In the year 2022, an unprecedented economic crisis occurred in our neighboring country, Sri Lanka. This infuriated the people and forced the rulers to resign. However, the country has not fully recovered from the economic crisis.

In this situation, the Ministry of Finance of Sri Lanka has announced that it will take a loan of 150 million US dollars (about Rs. 1,244 crore) from the World Bank. It is reported that this loan is being taken with the aim of strengthening the country’s financial safety net and the agreement in this regard was signed recently.

A senior official of the Ministry of Finance said, “The loan program from the World Bank will focus on strengthening the Sri Lankan Deposit Insurance Scheme managed by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. This will strengthen the safety net of the Sri Lankan financial sector.”
