A Tragic Incident at Surat Railway Station: One Dead, Several Injured in Stampede
A devastating incident has occurred at the Surat railway station in Gujarat, where one person has lost their life and several others have been injured in a stampede. The chaotic scene unfolded as many people were attempting to return to their hometowns via train ahead of the Diwali festival.
The surge in the number of people at the railway station can be attributed to the large presence of foreign workers, mainly from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, who are currently staying and working in Surat. These workers, numbering around 15 lakh, were eager to travel back to their hometowns to celebrate Diwali. The influx of people proved to be overwhelming, prompting the need for police intervention to control the crowd.
In light of the expected increase in travelers, the Railways had taken precautions by appointing additional ticket counters, trains, and guards to manage the crowds at Surat railway station. Despite these measures, the unfortunate stampede occurred.
Those who were injured in the stampede have been promptly admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Union Minister of State for Railways, Darshana Jardosh, who is a member of the Surat Lok Sabha constituency, has personally met with the victims to ensure they receive proper care and attention.
