The French Baseball and Softball Federation (FFBS) will undergo a significant leadership transition as Stephen Lesfargues concludes his tenure as National Technical Director (DTN) on December 31st. His decades-long commitment has been instrumental in shaping the landscape of baseball, softball, and the emerging discipline of Baseball5 within France.

Lesfargues’ journey began in New Aquitaine, where he discovered a passion for baseball at the Pitcher’s club in Pineuilh. Growing up immersed in the local baseball community, he quickly developed a dedication that would define his life’s work. He progressed through the French training system, completing courses at CREPS in Montpellier and INSEP, ultimately becoming a prominent figure in the French championship, known for his demanding yet collaborative approach.

His impact extended to the French national team, where supporters fondly recall his pivotal role in the memorable 1994 series against South Africa in Paris. For Lesfargues, representing his country was more than a professional achievement; it was a profound honor and a weighty responsibility. This experience as a high-performance athlete provided him with invaluable insight into the realities of the sport and the pathways to success – a foundation that would prove crucial in his subsequent leadership roles.

After retiring as a player, Lesfargues transitioned seamlessly into administration, serving as Federal Vice-President before assuming the role of National Technical Director. In this capacity, he dedicated himself to strengthening the high-level competitive structure, providing support to clubs, training coaches, fostering the growth of Baseball5, and promoting overall unity within the FFBS.

“Stephen never does things by halves,” a senior official stated. “He observes, he questions, he builds, and he moves forward, always believing in the people who dedicate themselves to our disciplines across France.”

His legacy is characterized by a more structured, ambitious, and ultimately, more human federation. Those who knew him best emphasize his unwavering commitment to the individuals involved in French baseball and softball. The FFBS recognizes Lesfargues’ constant involvement, loyalty, passion, and high standards throughout his mission. His work and vision will continue to shape the future of the sport in France.
