Stock Market Update: Indian Equities Close Lower as Sensex Drops 310 Points

Mumbai: Indian stocks closed lower on Thursday. The Sensex was down 310 points (0.49 per cent) at 62,917. Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty fell 67 points (0.36 per cent) to 18,688.

Today’s trade in the stock markets started with a dip but gradually started to rise during the trade. As of 10:01 am, the Sensex was up 10.25 points at 63,238.76. The Nifty rose 20.50 points to 18,776.40 on the national bourse.

Indian equities ended lower today, ending a three-day gain, on fears of a US Federal Reserve rate hike, losses in financials, banking and IT stocks and selling pressure in the latter half of trade.

By the end of today’s trading hours, the Sensex was down 310.88 points at 62,917.63. At the same time, Nifty fell 67.80 points to 18,688.10 on the National Stock Exchange.

In terms of individual stocks, Nestlé India, M&M, Asian Paints, ITC, HCL Technologies, Maruti Suzuki, Bajaj Finance, Tech Mahindra, Bharti Airtel, L&T, Sunpharma Industries, Titan Company were the gainers.

IndusInd Bank, Wipro, State Bank of India, Kodak Mahindra Bank, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Infosys, TCS, HDFC, Hindustan Unilever, Tata Motors, NTPC, Bajaj Finserv, Ultratech Cements, Axis Bank, Tata Steel, Reliance Industries, Power Grid Corporation shares fell.
