A government delegation visited Diarabakoko in Banfora commune, the gold mining site, on Tuesday July 2, 2024, to observe the illegal exploitation of that site. Immediately, the delegation, consisting of the Minister of Energy, Mines and Quarries, Yacouba Zabré GOUBA and the Minister Delegate in charge of Security, the Commissioner of Police of the Department, Mahamadou Sana, demanded that the work on the sites with belongs

“We have just noticed this illegal activity. This is an exploitation of our environment with enormous and unimaginable damage. It must be said that this extraordinary activity is being carried out by aliens who are wildly exploiting our environment. the Minister of Energy, Mines and Quarries, Yacouba Zabré GOUBA informed.

According to Mr. GOUBA, the government decided that it was necessary to delegate the Ministers in charge of Security and Mines to respect the extent of the phenomenon and take appropriate measures to be able to stop it. “this act that destroys our environment”.

As a first measure, the immediate cessation of all activities in the affected areas which are, among others, the Cascades, the Hauts-bassins and the Southwest. “What we have as information is that these activities are carried out with the intelligence of some of our brothers,” regret it.

“The second urgent measure concerns those who were involved in this illegal practice and who abused our generosity. Their residence permits will be withdrawn plain and simple and, as a result, we will ask them to leave the territory of Burkina Faso.” he confided.

The third measure concerns those who have research permits and semi-mechanization permits and who benefited from the comfort of some of our brothers to facilitate this illegal exploitation.

Only these permissions will be removed. There seems to be some benefit to artisanal mining cards. These cards will also be removed and they will also be removed from the mining list, he said.

“We are going to mobilize the Defense Forces and the Security Forces to be able to make a wide range of sites and a complete map to allow us to see the other possible perimeters where this exploitation is and to end it. with this bad practice”, said the minister.

Finally, one of the most urgent measures we have to take concerns all the materials and equipment used on these sites. They will be seized administratively and will become the property of the State of Burkina Faso, he stated.

According to the Minister in charge of Mines, this equipment consists of about sixty machines, and each machine costs at least 600,000,000 CFA francs. All this shows the extent to which this phenomenon is progressing, he noted.

“We can say that what these aliens are looking for is gold, but it is important that we can deepen the research to see if, behind this search for gold, there are not other valuable substances that are being used by these people.”he said.

Regarding the Minister in charge of Security, Mahamadou Sana, “We came to take strong measures on the instructions of the President of Faso, Head of State”. According to Mr. Sana, one of the measures is the pure and simple withdrawal of the residence permits of these foreigners with the maximum application of the sanctions provided for by the texts in force.

In his opinion, it is another measure “administrative seizure of devices. We need these devices to wage war, since we are in a state of terrorism. The Defense and Security Forces have already been instructed to proceed tomorrow with the removal of these devices, which consist of machines and hydraulic excavators, which can be used to build combat posts and trenches. These hydraulic excavators can also be used in the theater of operations ».

He invited the FDS to carry out research especially in areas that are difficult to access, especially in forests, and “We are still sure that there may be other sites hidden in these locations”.

The Minister in charge of Security appealed to all Burkinabés to distance themselves from such practices. He also sent a message to all foreigners emphasizing that Burkina Faso is still a country of hospitality, but that there are limits. “When you try to abuse this hospitality, we are also ready to act to protect our environment, our sovereignty and our people”he warned.

According to him, investigations are underway and legal proceedings are being initiated to enable the detection and identification of all those who are competent and to enforce the integrity of the law on them. “We have also given instructions to the administrative authorities to take all measures to ensure that such practices are no longer followed in their territorial jurisdiction.”he finished.
