The six compositions on the podium of the event born from “Leggendaria”

of Vincenza Alfano

Will of redemption. Impatience with injustice. Rebellion against lawlessness. The students competing in the poetry composition contest “Il Verso Giusto”, organized by the “Alberto Mario Moriconi” Association and born from a branch of “Leggend..aria”, are heading in the right direction. The event that brings in books and readers to animate the streets of the city by involving passers-by in participatory and playful forms of reading, with moments of training for students with the University and reading meetings with writers. If the health emergency, for more than a year now, has prevented legendary teachers and students from carrying out the project in the ordinary way, its creator has not given up. With Vania Piscopo, Bernardina Moriconi launched the idea of the poetic contest, which does not want to be a substitute for the ancient splendor of Leggend… aria, but rather represents a second life of hers waiting to return. The Prize brings together students’ creativity, sensitivity towards poetic art and education for legality. After all, poetry – observes Bernardina Moriconi – is rarely read but it is very close to the feelings of young people also because thanks to its essentiality it guarantees easier control of the means of expression ”. A successful experiment in which dozens of schools have ventured with a hundred poems, selected by a jury of experts in which the names of Paolo Siani, Emanuele Cerullo, Nino Daniele, Paolo de Luca, Giuseppe Perna stand out. From the texts, beyond the talent and creativity, above all come the hope and the will to do together and to do well. Below are the winning poems for each category.

Vincenza Alfano

Lower secondary school section
First place – “A new sun”

by Antonio Erman class 3 B of the First Grade Secondary School Viale delle Acacie
A New Sun
How many atrocities
How many broken lives
How many broken dreams
Brave men
Men of peace
Men who were afraid but who fought
The sky darkens
when history becomes oblivion
Then the Word
Strong as a spear
Light up the sky
It is the memory that becomes thirsty for justice
It is a new sun
that warms the earth
And it makes us dream… a better way!

Second place – “The right verse”

by Vanessa Castilletti, Federica Chiacchiarini, Dalila De Vita, Alessandra Granata of class 3 F of ICS Minucci di Napo

at the

You know? The Camorra does not look at age,
hits everyone without mercy:
if you became a journalist
like Giancarlo to be ready on the track
or a priest who helps the faithful
without thinking only of the High Heaven …
I wish everything went the right way,
that people remembered with great disgust
and that justice went deeper
to make everything clearer in the world.
A world that suffers and is suffocated
by those who are overbearing and want to frighten them,
but who still fights there is
and can defeat a lot of silence!
Men and women together will be
with head and looks will face
the spread of those realities,
using courage and great honesty.

Third place – “Dear Red Rose”

by Sergio Cotugno class 2 F of the First Grade Secondary School Viale delle Acacie

Dude the pink guy,
You have grown luxuriant
Like the dawn
Of a fairy tale,
And of all you are the most beautiful flower,
Pure like your bold color.
The days we went by
And we fell in love,
But that idyllic moment
It was interrupted by a fatal wind
Which aroused great fear,
Even if it was only for a moment,
He brought with him
All that mattered to me.
So they said to me,
“I haven’t heard of it or even seen it
There has never been this wind ”.

Second grade secondary school section
First place – “Aria”

by Elia Casolare of class 4 A Alfonso Casanova Higher Secondary Education Institute of Naples

I need a breath of fresh air,
as great as the narrow bond in which I find myself,
I am surrounded and I have no way out.
I’ve been living in silence for too long,
I kept silent in fear
of something bigger than me.
I often whispered thin cries for help
that were in vain
Were not heard or maybe
it was me
not wanting to make me feel or simply
I was aware of the consequences
and I didn’t have the courage to face them.
The MAFIA kills, silence as well.

Second place – “Eterno Dèja-vu”

by Alessandra Della Corte of class 4 A Liceo Statale Elio Vittorini Naples

A monster, silence,
the deadliest torture there is,
for Falcone, Borsellino, or whoever it is.
You keep going on, helpless,
innocent victims continue to be claimed.
Deserted streets, resigned looks,
continuous crying and incessant struggles;
but now nothing seems to change anymore,
as if it were all an eternal déjà-vu.

Third place – “Children of the same flag”

by Gaia Esposito of class 2 A Alfonso Casanova Secondary Higher Education Institute of Naples

Mafia. Synonym of evil
Of those who believe that only with violence is it valid.
Threaten the honest,
Rob the worker,
He is relentless on the right,
Everyone becomes the creditor.
Every life stolen,
Any law violated,
Every subjugated person
It is a plus point for organized crime.
What then could have nothing organized
If who opens his eyes and especially his mind,
Then he repents of his choice and repents.
It is a sick organ that needs to be treated,
indeed, an entire body that needs to be rehabilitated.
Needless to say, it’s a Sicilian problem,
Calabrese, Neapolitan.
We are all children of the same flag
Only legality can help us in this era.
It is a duty for those who have paid with their skin, For the courage of having been rebellious.
For those who, now, look at us from the stars.
