Teenager Arrested After Stabbing Incident in Austria

A 13-year-old girl has been arrested in Bruck an der Mur, Austria, following an attack on a 17-year-old boy with a kitchen knife on Friday, November 21, 2025. The incident has prompted a police investigation and raised concerns about youth violence and mental health.

Details of the Attack

According to police reports released on November 22, 2025, the attack occurred on Friday afternoon at the girl’s parents’ apartment in Bruck an der Mur, located in the Bruck-Mürzzuschlag district. The 17-year-old victim sustained injuries during the assault but was able to escape the apartment and immediately contact emergency services.

“The boy was able to get away and call for help,” a senior official stated.

Police responded to the scene and apprehended the 13-year-old suspect. During questioning, she reportedly confessed to the attack. The 17-year-old received treatment as an outpatient at the hospital in Leoben and was discharged the same day.

Argument and Underlying Factors

Investigators determined that the stabbing followed an argument between the two teenagers. The girl’s father was not present at the residence during the time of the incident.

A key element in understanding the event, according to police, is the suspect’s pre-existing mental illness, which had been diagnosed previously. “The reason for the knife attack was a mental illness that had been diagnosed for a long time,” police announced in a press release. Following her interrogation, the 13-year-old was transferred to a hospital for evaluation and care.

Ongoing Investigation and Support

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack. The focus remains on understanding the factors that contributed to this violent act and ensuring the safety and well-being of both individuals involved.

The incident underscores the critical need for accessible mental health resources for young people and the importance of addressing potential risk factors before they escalate into violence.
