Sudden protests in the Sri Lankan capital Colombo

Crowds gathered tonight in front of the Presidential Palace in the Sri Lankan capital, Colombo, chanting anti-presidential and anti-government slogans.

It is learned that the security forces used water cannons to disperse the protesters but did not disperse the crowd. It is learned that the angry youths attacked the vehicles of the security forces and set fire to a bus.

Following this, a police curfew has been imposed in many parts of Colombo with immediate effect. The curfew has been imposed in Colombo North, South, Central Colombo and Nugegoda.

According to later reports, protests have erupted in other parts of Colombo. Following this, the Inspector General of Police announced that the Police Curfew Act has been implemented in the area with immediate effect.

It is learned that police curfew has been imposed in Colombo North, Colombo South, Colombo Central and Nugegoda Police Divisions, Kelaniya and Mount Lavinia Police Divisions.
