This is a column by Josué BONKOUNGOU on railway news.

In a report broadcast during a news program this Tuesday, December 5, 2023, individuals interviewed, presenting themselves as traders from the Bobo-Dioulasso railway station, threatened to block rail traffic again in the coming days. Worse, this time they even threaten to “tear up the rails”. And for good reason, the fallacious reason according to which the passenger train must imperatively run in Ivorian territory, despite the absence of authorization from the authorities of this country and despite the discussions still ongoing between States.

As a reminder, during the previous blockage, 14 trains, the equivalent of more than 500 trucks, were prevented from running. In this difficult context, where our Authorities and valiant soldiers are making enormous and laudable sacrifices to supply our populations, we cannot tolerate, for any reason whatsoever, that satiated individuals, with unacknowledged motivations, row against the tide. of this dynamic of resilience of our country.

Because, blocking a supply circuit of the country, which is our railway, is to use the same operating mode as those (without naming them) who sabotage the road infrastructures to prevent the supply of certain localities and thus create their own. suffocation.

You should know that in a country’s supply chain, the blocking of one link (circuit or corridor) de facto causes a dysfunction throughout the chain, with the consequences of bottlenecks, inflation or the shortage of certain consumer products, because each means of transport has its specificities that are difficult to transport.

Our authorities are therefore alerted in order to take dissuasive measures to prevent this new blockage and to definitively eradicate these acts of incivility consisting of systematically blocking road and rail routes as a means of protest. The Head of State said: “A nation is not built through indiscipline. A nation is not built in disorder.”
