Survey shows: TikTok is so bad for girls and young women | life & knowledge

by time news

It is well known that the use of social media has a major impact on the psyche. But now a new report shows that the popular platforms TikTok and Snapchat in particular cause users to feel significantly worse – and even young women are resorting to Botox.

The results of STYLEBOOK Beauty Impact Reports 2022 show that users who use social media every day rate their self-confidence, body awareness and psychological well-being as very low. The users of TikTok and Snapchat are particularly affected. On a scale of 1 to 10, TikTok users rated their mental well-being at only 6.2 – the lowest value of all the media surveyed. When it comes to body awareness, Snapchat and TikTok users only have a value of 6.4 and 6.5, respectively. For comparison: Those who do not use social media at all get an average of 7.7 points.

Also noticeable: the longer the respondents use social media, the lower their well-being. Frightening – because both Snapchat and TikTok are used especially by young women and girls!

More than half of the users think about lip fillers and botox

The result: more and more young women want to conform to a beauty ideal propagated on social networks at any price. In return, they even accept “minor” cosmetic procedures. The study revealed that more than half of the users of Snapchat and TikTok have already had so-called “minimally invasive” procedures or have at least thought about them. These procedures also include lip injections with “fillers” and the nerve toxin Botox.

The main reasons for cosmetic procedures are dissatisfaction with one’s own body (70 percent) and a lack of self-confidence (56 percent). However, the enormous pressure from outside should not be underestimated: wanting to please someone else (30 percent), comparison with role models (28 percent) and social pressure (22 percent) also play a role in the decision to have a beauty procedure.
