Surveyors report the decline of the highest mountain in Europe

by time news

Measurements carried out by French surveyors showed that in four years the height of Mont Blanc decreased by 91 centimeters – from 4808.72 meters to 4807.81 meters.

Experts say the reason for the decrease in the height of the mountain is the melting of snow on its top, which, in turn, could be a consequence of global warming. Now the snow cover of the mountain rises about 16 meters above the rock and ice build-up.

Snow melting is not the only factor that can affect the height of mountains – this figure can change by a few centimeters, for example, from earthquakes.
