Korean swimming star Hwang Seon-woo (Gangwon Provincial Office) secured a spot at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Hwang Seon-woo took first place with a time of 48.28 seconds in the men’s 100m freestyle final at the Paris Olympics Swimming Management National Team Selection (KB Finance Korea Swimming Championship) held at the Gimcheon Indoor Swimming Pool in Gyeongsangbuk-do on the 24th.

As a result, Hwang Sun-woo, who passed the Paris Olympics standard record (48.34 seconds) in this event, confirmed his trip to Paris.

It was short of his own Korean record of 47.56 seconds.

Lee Yu-yeon (Goyang City Hall) took second place with a personal best of 48.98 seconds, and Lee Ho-jun (Jeju City Hall) took third place with 49.11 seconds.

Hwang Sun-woo, who participated for the first time in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics held in 2021, won the 200m freestyle gold medal at the Doha World Aquatics Championships last month, increasing his chances of winning at the Paris Olympics.

Sunwoo Hwang participates in the main event, the 200m freestyle preliminaries, on the morning of the 25th, and then aims for his second qualification to the Paris Olympics in the 200m freestyle finals on the 26th.

In the women’s 200m individual medley final, Kim Seo-young (Gyeongbuk Provincial Office) won with a time of 2 minutes 13.24 seconds, winning a ticket to the Olympics for the fourth time in a row.

Although it fell short of the Paris Olympics’ standard record of 2 minutes, 11.47 seconds, it confirmed its qualification to the Olympics with a bronze medal record (2 minutes, 10.36 seconds) at last year’s Hangzhou Asian Games.

Kim Seo-young is the first Korean swimmer to stand on the Olympic stage four times in a row.

Seoyoung Kim will also compete in the women’s 100m butterfly preliminaries on the morning of the 26th.

In the women’s 800m freestyle final, Han Da-kyung (Jeollabuk-do Sports Council) won with a Korean record of 8 minutes 38.32 seconds. This is a new record in this category for the first time in five years.

Meanwhile, the athletes who have secured qualifications to the Paris Olympics in the representative selection competition up to this day include Hwang Seon-woo and Kim Seo-young, as well as Kim Woo-min (Gangwon Provincial Office men’s 1,500m freestyle), Lee Joo-ho (Seogwipo City Hall men’s 200m backstroke), Lee Eun-ji (Bangsan High School women’s 200m backstroke), and Choi Dong-yeol (Gangwon Provincial Office). There are 7 people (men’s 100m breaststroke) and Kim Min-seop (Dokdo Sports Team men’s 200m butterfly).
