New Delhi: Syed Mushtaq Ali won the T20 title for Tamil Nadu. Defending champions Tamil Nadu beat Karnataka by four wickets. Shah Rukh Khan (33 off 15 balls) led Tamil Nadu to victory with a six off the last ball. After losing the toss and opting to bat, Karnataka scored 151 for seven in the allotted overs. In reply, Tamil Nadu won by six wickets in 20 overs.
They needed 16 runs in the last over to win. Sai Kishore hit a boundary off the first ball bowled by Pratik Jain. Single on the second ball. Shah Rukh came to strike. It takes 11 runs off four balls to win. Third ball wide. A run on the next ball. Another run off the fourth ball. Shah Rukh strikes again. It takes eight runs off two balls to win. The fifth ball went wide. Two runs were scored when the fifth ball was bowled again. Five runs to win the last ball. Shah Rukh hit a six off the last ball of the deep square leg. Sai Kishore (6) was not new.
Batting first, Tamil Nadu got off to a good start with a target of 152 runs. Hari Nishant, who scored 23 off 12 balls, was the first out. Sai Sudarshan (9), skipper Vijay Shankar (18), Sanjay Yadav (5) and M Mohammad (5) were the other batsmen to disappoint. Another opener Narayan Jagadeesan (41 off 46 balls)’s slowness put Tamil Nadu on the defensive. But Shah Rukh’s innings gave Tamil Nadu the title. KC Kariyappa took two wickets.
Earlier, Abhinav Manohar (46) and Praveen Dubey (33) led Karnataka in the innings. Rohan Kadam (0), Manish Pandey (13), Karun Nair (18), BR Sarath (16) and J Sujith (18) are the outfielders. Darshan (0) was not out. Sai Kishore took three wickets for Tamil Nadu. Malayalee Sandeep Warrier has one wicket. Indian batsman T Natarajan took one wicket for 44 runs in four overs.
This is the third time that Syed Mushtaq Ali of Tamil Nadu has won. In 2020, Tamil Nadu defeated Baroda to win the title. When the tournament debuted in 2006, Tamil Nadu won the title. Punjab was defeated then. In 2019, Karnataka won the title by defeating Tamil Nadu. It was also a revenge for the defeat of that day.
