EMZA develops AI visual sensing solutions with ultra-low power and is installed in edge cameras, among others in protected housing complexes

Synaptics (NASDAQ: SYNA) announced the acquisition of Israeli Emza Visual Sense, a developer of ultra-low power AI visual sensing solutions. The addition expands Synaptics’ position in the field of artificial intelligence of end devices and enables it to immediately serve the personal computer market with a proven solution for human presence detection (HPD) applications, gaze recognition and identification of the examiner, while providing a unique response to security and privacy concerns of system users.

“We are very excited to integrate and expand the expertise and technology of the Emza team across our business,” said Salal Awasara, SVP and GM at Synaptics. “A combination of key technologies in edge hardware and algorithms for computer vision, audio and security, while leveraging decades of experience and in-depth knowledge of customer requirements, will allow us together to rapidly deploy, expand and redefine the HPD experience.”

A typical low-power smart vision architecture consists of a low-resolution image sensor combined with an Edge AI SoC that is typically limited in computing and memory resources. Already deployed and field-proven in numerous applications, Emza’s unique directed ML algorithms meet the challenges of a resource-constrained environment by maximizing AI inference per milliwatt for optimal visual sensing performance.”

“The Emza solution complements Synaptics’ Katana TM AI SoC platform and together they enable HPD applications in devices ranging from personal computers, laptops and smart TVs, to home security cameras. The Amza team that worked until now in Givatayim will become part of Synaptics Israel in Herzliya, which was created after the purchase of DSPG by Synaptics for 549 million dollars in cash.
