Before the start of the Synod of Synodality, which began on October 4 in the Vatican, it was thought that the participation of the members would be under pontifical secrecy, but this has not been the case, although there is a provision that makes the discussions are kept confidential.

The pontifical secret is one that is kept, according to the norms of the Church, with greater reserve and discretion than normal. It must be kept as a “serious obligation” and is regulated by the instruction To contain secrets 1974, of Pope Paul VI. This measure, the violation of which implies a sanction, does not apply to the interventions of this Synod.

However, the rules that members must follow were published this week, on the first day of the Synod, and specify that “each of the participants is obliged to maintain privacy and confidentiality both with respect to their own interventions and with respect to to the interventions of the other participants.”
