Bangladesh Chhatra League has demanded to introduce systematic student politics in Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) freed from the shadow of fundamentalist groups.

At the same time, the Chhatra League has called upon the BUET administration, teaching staff and students not to be involved in a series of numerous injustices and violations of constitutional rights as a remedy for an injustice.

He said these things at the protest rally at the foot of Central Shahid Minar on Sunday (March 31) afternoon. Bangladesh Chhatra League held a protest rally calling banning of student politics in BUET as an unconstitutional, anti-fundamental rights and anti-educational decision of the university administration.

Central Chhatra League President Saddam Hussain said that the trained cadres of Hizb ut Tahrir, JMB and Chhatrashibir are continuing the activities banned in BUET campus. Placing posters on the walls, inviting students by e-mail, camp holding anti-national meetings in Tangua Haore. So the decision to ban student politics in BUET is a drama. This drama must be stopped. Systematic student politics should be introduced in BUET.

He said, if Imtiaz Rabbi fights for freedom alone, we will fight for him. The constitution gives freedom of assembly, freedom to organize. We have appeared at Shaheed Minar today to teach those who have taken anti-constitutional decisions.

“We demand that student council elections should be held in every university including BUET. Imtiaz Rabbi should be given back his seat in the hall and receive him with respect.’

Saddam Hossain said, “We have infiltrated Buet.” Chhatra League does not do infiltration politics. We enter and change. As a citizen we have the right to go to all educational institutions only in Buet. I have also been to Buet many times to hang out with friends. If we want to go to Buet, we will get permission from whom? To those who oppose February 21, March 26?

He also said, we know there are negative elements in student politics. But it needs to be reformed with better student politics. The Constitution is being insulted in the name of banning student politics. Creating a campus culture and practicing dark politics in the campus is being done.

‘We want BUET students to present smart student politics. Come, create the standard of student politics. We Chhatra League will follow it democratically.

At that time, the speakers also pointed out that the freedom-democracy-loving people and student society of Bangladesh are finally rejecting the decision to cancel the allotted seat of the residential hall of Imtiaz Hossain Rahim, a student of Civil Engineering Department of BUET.

They said that the students of Bangladesh strongly condemned and protested this decision of the Buet administration as an unfair, unconstitutional, anti-fundamental right and anti-educational action by the highest educational institution.

The speakers in the protest rally said that the establishment of the Bangladesh state and the right to education of common people in this state was achieved through a glorious struggle, which was led by the students of this country. But regrettably, recently some activities are being conducted in this university with constitutional student politics, sheltering which is the ultimate violation of the great constitution of Bangladesh, which was acquired by the blood of 3 million martyrs.

BUET Bangladesh is an educational institution run within the state and at the expense of the people of Bangladesh. In all cases it shall be governed by the constitution and prevailing laws of this State. But by not doing so, the BUET administration is implementing it illegally and unconstitutionally, even though nowhere in this law does the BUET have the power to ban student politics. Through this attempt to ban mainstream open student politics, BUET has been turned into a place of pilgrimage for the activities of various organizations of the banned, dark world of the country and the world against humanity.

Chhatra League leaders said that activities such as secret meetings in militant hideouts in Tangua, propaganda of militancy in official mails of students, anti-state activities through QR code in campus, mocking of great freedom in classrooms in the university environment are driving BUET backwards from its goals and objectives. The BUET administration has obstructed the exercise of Imtiaz Hossain Rahim’s constitutional right to organize (Article 38) by canceling the allotted seat.

They said that as a part of the great educational institution on which the national flag has been erected as a symbol of the independence and sovereignty of this country, you as a part of that institution should not take any decision, practice social norms, practices that violate the constitution of the country, the fundamental rights and individual freedom of a student. It undermines, denies the right to education, disrupts normal and family life. Such a decision of yours will be considered as a hindrance in the overall progress of this country and the common people of this country for whose labor and sweat these educational institutions are run will not accept it in any way.

BCL general secretary Sheikh Wali Asif Inan presided over the protest rally and President Saddam Hossain presided over it. Leaders and activists of different educational institutions and units of Chhatra League gathered in various halls of Dhaka University, Jagannath University, Dhaka College, Eden Women’s College, Begum Badrunnessa Government Women’s College, Government Titumir College, Bangla College, Dhaka Metropolitan South Chhatra League.
