The Tamil Film Producers Association meeting held after 7 years caused an uproar as the rules for contesting elections were changed. However, the administrators explained that 95 percent supported it.

Tamil Film Producers Association General Committee meeting was held in Thenampet, Chennai. President Murali Ramanarayanan, SA Chandrasekhar, RK Suresh, Mansoor Ali Khan and others participated.

The uproar was caused by the resolutions passed in this meeting amending the rules of the association.

It was resolved that the candidates contesting the elections for executives including the chairman should have been an executive once before or a member of the executive committee for 2 times and can be a basic member only if they have produced 2 films and released them in at least 25 theaters.

Subsequently, some people who were enraged as the meeting was declared closed, raised slogans against the resolution and demanding the announcement of the election date.

Protesting against the new rules, SA Chandrasekhar, JSK Satish, RV Udayakumar etc. walked out. Later, producer Shekhar, who met the media, alleged that unacceptable decisions had been taken.

Producer JSK Satishkumar said that legal action will be taken as the resolutions were not passed democratically.

The administrators have explained that it is not proper to speak against it in the public space from within the union and that the resolution has been passed with 95 percent support.

The matter is expected to go to court as some producers have said they will take legal action against the decision.
