Sridhar Vembu, a native of Thanjavur, holds a Bachelor of Engineering from IIT Madras and a PhD from Princeton University, New Jersey, USA. He started his career as a wireless engineer in California and in 1996 started a software company for network equipment suppliers in the US with his brothers. In 2009, it was renamed as Soho. While all international software companies have opened their branches only in metropolitan cities, Sridhar Vembu has taken a new initiative by opening a branch of Soho in a hamlet near Tenkasi to provide well-paying jobs to the youth of the area.
