Coimbatore: A project report has been prepared for Rs.176.06 crore for garbage management in Coimbatore and a proposal has been sent from the corporation to the Tamil Nadu government.

In Coimbatore, 1,100 tonnes of garbage is collected every day. Efforts are being made to collect these by classifying them as biodegradable and non-biodegradable. The old garbage dumped in the Vellalur dump is being destroyed by ‘bio-mining’. In the next phase, an estimate of Rs 51.98 crore has been prepared and sent to the government to recycle 8.28 lakh cubic meters of old waste in an area of ​​53.8 acres.

Also, a project report has been prepared and submitted to the government to recycle 100 tonnes of dry and wet waste and produce ‘Bio Gas’ at a cost of Rs.37.83 crore.

The Corporation is also planning to build a building waste recycling center at a cost of Rs 6 crore under the Clean Bharat 2.0 project. Also, it has been decided to implement the project of making ‘Paver Block’ stones from the materials obtained by incineration of 200 tonnes of dry and wet waste by machine at a cost of Rs.45 crore, with private contribution.

Apart from these, the work of setting up composting centers on biodegradable waste has also been accelerated. Through these, every day, 48 tonnes of dry waste is disposed of at the composting centers instead of going to the Vellalur warehouse, and the Municipal Sanitation Department makes arrangements.

Bharat 2.0 project

Also, the Managing Director of Municipalities has given permission to purchase various vehicles including bagline vehicle, earth moving machines, air removal machine in ponds, road cleaning machine under Thuimai Bharatham project. These machines and vehicles are to be introduced in the current financial year.

Regarding this, the municipal officials said, ‘For the Garbage Management Project, a proposal has been sent to the government to prepare a project report for Rs.176.06 crore and get funds from the 15th Finance Commission and the Clean India 2.0 project. They said that the funds will be allocated soon and the work will be started.

‘Technical Feasibility Study’

A ‘tender’ was requested to collect garbage through a private company in all the 100 wards under the corporation area. In this regard, when asked to Corporation Commissioner Prathap, three companies participated in requesting a ‘tender’ to carry out garbage collection work through an external agency. The technical qualification evaluation of those companies is going on. Eligible company will be selected and its quotation cover will be opened. He said that the sanitation workers who are currently working on contract basis will definitely be given priority.
