Tamil News | Student killed by taking nutritional pills: Two teachers suspended

Coimbatore: A student who consumed too many nutritional pills died on the way to Chennai Stanley Government Hospital due to liver damage. Two school teachers were suspended in this incident.

A Municipal School is functioning near Ooty in Nilgiri District. On the 6th last, nutritional tablets were distributed to the school by the health department. Among them, four students studying in 8th standard took more pills. After that, all the four students fainted. The girl students were admitted to Ooty Government General Hospital and treated. They were admitted to Coimbatore Government Hospital on the same day for further treatment.

There, intensive treatment was given to the students. In this case, a student’s condition worsened after consuming 40 tablets. A test conducted on him revealed liver damage. Subsequently, today the student was taken to Chennai Stanley Government Hospital by 108 ambulance.

In this case, while traveling near Salem, the student developed fever and became short of breath. The student’s legs continued to swell. After that they were admitted to Salem Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Hospital. There he was given intensive care. However, the patient died without treatment.

Two teachers suspended

The District Elementary Education Officer Jayakumar has ordered the suspension of two persons, namely, Mohammad Amin, the headmaster of the municipal school, and Kalaivani, who was working as a monitoring officer for distributing pills and a teacher, in connection with the issue of female students eating pills in a competition.
