Tarleton State Tennis Seeks Continued Success at UIW Fall Tournament

The Texans aim to build on recent victories as they head to San Antonio for the University of the Incarnate Word Fall Tournament this weekend.

Tarleton State University’s tennis program is gearing up for another key test of its fall campaign, traveling to San Antonio to compete in the University of the Incarnate Word Fall Tournament starting Friday. The team is looking to capitalize on the momentum generated from a dominant performance at the 2025 Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Fall Invitational, where they secured both the singles and doubles championships. This marks the second consecutive fall tournament where Tarleton State has achieved a top finish, signaling a strong trajectory heading into the spring dual season.

The Texans concluded last season with a 13-8 record and currently hold a 6-3 all-time advantage over Incarnate Word. Their recent matchups have favored Tarleton State, with victories in the past two contests. Last spring, the Texans delivered a decisive 6-1 road win against the Cardinals, fueled by strong showings in both singles and doubles play. In that match, Tarleton State secured the opening point by sweeping all three doubles courts. They then went on to win five of six singles matches, with straight-set victories from Maretha Burger, Emma Persson, Maria Castano, Noelia Lorca, and Adeliya Mukhutdinova.

This weekend’s lineup will be anchored by senior players Ximena Morales, Clara Sobius, and Adeliya Mukhutdinova. Notably, senior Emma Persson will not be competing in San Antonio. Morales, who finished last season with an 11-6 singles record and an 11-3 doubles record, and Mukhutdinova (13-5 singles, 4-1 doubles) are expected to provide crucial leadership. Sobius, with an 11-4 doubles record, has also proven to be a consistent contributor.

Incarnate Word will be seeking redemption after falling to Tarleton State in their previous two encounters. The Cardinals will rely on the experience of players Lyric Bonilla, Amelie Montalvo, and Smilia Matovic, all of whom secured singles wins during their fall schedule.

The tournament represents a valuable opportunity for head coach Elianne Douglas-Miron to assess her team’s rotation as she prepares for the spring dual season. In her seventh year leading the program, Douglas-Miron boasts an impressive 83-39 career record and has firmly established Tarleton State as a rising force within the Western Athletic Conference.

First serve at the UIW Tennis Complex is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Friday.
