The government had warned that it was going to attack “brown niches”, that is to say tax advantages contrary to the national objective of reducing CO2 emissions. This will be done in 2024. The Minister of the Economy has certainly given up on reducing the tax loophole for heavy goods vehicles. But he reached an agreement with the agricultural and public works sectors to gradually reduce the discounts they receive on the purchase of non-road diesel (NGR).

Bruno Le Maire detailed the mechanism in an interview on LCI this Tuesday morning. Regarding public works, companies will have to pay around 6 additional cents per liter each year by 2030. In seven years, they will thus reach the normal tax level, paid by the general public.
