Skier Breezy Johnson Celebrates Engagement with Taylor Swift’s Blessing After Olympic Run
A whirlwind day at the Milan Cortina Olympics culminated in a fairytale engagement for alpine skier Breezy Johnson, with a heartfelt congratulatory message from pop superstar Taylor Swift adding to the joy. The proposal from boyfriend Connor Watkins followed Johnson’s super-G run on February 12, marking a high point in an already memorable Winter Games.
Johnson and Watkins celebrated the emotional moment alongside her USA teammates at the finish line before sharing the news with fans on Instagram. In a playful post, Johnson introduced her fiancé, writing, “Hey guys… meet Connor! My ex boyfriend! And current fiancé!!!” alongside photos of the proposal and her sparkling ring. She expressed gratitude for everyone involved, stating it was “everything I ever dreamed of. Kind of like Connor!”
One particularly touching detail was the inscription on the ring box: “Honestly, who are we to fight the alchemy?” – a direct lyric from Swift’s song “The Alchemy.” This prompted a response from Swift herself, who commented, “‘Where’s the trophy? He just comes running over to me’ CONGRATULATIONS!!!” quoting further lines from her album, “The Tortured Poets Department.” Johnson enthusiastically reposted Swift’s message on her Instagram story, exclaiming, “I am deaddddddd.”
“The Alchemy” explores a rare and powerful connection, described as a love that “happens once every few lifetimes,” leading fans to speculate about its connection to Swift’s own relationship with fiancé Travis Kelce.
Johnson’s success at the 2026 Winter Olympics extends beyond her personal life. On February 8, she secured Team USA’s first gold medal, dominating the alpine skiing women’s downhill event. Despite a crash during the February 12 super-G final, she ended the day with a different kind of prize – a stunning engagement ring featuring a blue stone.
Speaking to TODAY after her fall and subsequent engagement, Johnson shared her emotional state. “When you make mistakes like that in ski racing you kind of feel stupid and you just kind of want to go talk to your friends and family. And, yeah, seeing him was really exciting. And then just everything else is crazy.”
Watkins, standing by her side during the interview, admitted to feeling anxious leading up to the proposal. “It’s an incredibly surreal experience,” he said. “I’d been really nervous. Every time she goes down the hill, I’m nervous, right? … She got up after the crash. It was good, and that was a sigh of relief. And then my heart started racing again, because I knew I was about to go and get down on my own knee and propose.”
The engagement marks a joyous chapter for Johnson, capping off a remarkable period of athletic achievement and personal happiness.
