Attention is focused on whether world-renowned pop artist Taylor Swift will endorse Vice President Kamala Harris ahead of the US presidential election in November. There is also speculation that Swift’s declaration of support is imminent, as she recently posted a photo reminiscent of Vice President Harris on Instagram.
On the 7th (local time), Newsweek and Sky News drew attention to a photo Swift posted on Instagram after the Eras Tour concert in Warsaw, Poland, saying, “It seems like Swift hinted at who she will support for the US presidential election.”
Swift posted 10 photos from the concert that day, and fans are speculating that the seventh photo is a sign that Swift is supporting Vice President Harris. The photo shows Swift holding a guitar and a backup dancer in a suit walking on stage. The backup dancer’s outfit and hairstyle, which are only shown from the back, are reminiscent of Vice President Harris, leading some to speculate that Swift may have used the photo to hint at a candidate she would support.
However, the Hollywood Reporter, a media outlet that reports Hollywood news, cited a source close to Swift and explained, “This silhouette is one of Swift’s backing vocalists,” and “These shadows often appear during performances.”
Swift supported US President Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election, but has yet to formally endorse a specific candidate in this election. Swift has expressed her support for abortion, LGBTQ rights, and gun control.
Costas Panagopoulos, a political science professor at Northeastern University, told Newsweek that Swift’s endorsement “could be worth its weight in gold to the Harris campaign.”
“Taylor Swift’s endorsement could excite and mobilize fans, many of whom are young voters who make up a critical part of the Democratic coalition,” he continued. “She could be instrumental in Harris’s victory, not just in terms of turnout, but also as a campaign volunteer.”
